As “Nine Moments for Now” closes its exciting run at the Cooper Gallery, we invite Kimberly Juanita Brown and Nikki A. Greene to articulate their responses to the content and impact of the show.

Brown is the Chair of Gender Studies and an Associate Professor of English and Africana Studies at Mount Holyoke College. She is also the founder of The Dark Room: Race and Visual Culture Seminar and author of The Repeating Body: Slavery’s Visual Resonance in the Contemporary (Duke University Press).

Nikki Greene is an art historian and Assistant Professor of Art at Wellesley College. She is also the visual arts editor of Transition magazine published by Indiana University Press and author of the forthcoming book, "Grime, Glass, and Glitter: The Body and The Sonic in Contemporary Black Art" (Duke University Press). Given the current national landscape, we believe that black women scholars have much to say about how art impacts culture, discourse, and democracy.
